Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has lauded student leaders across tertiary institutions in the state for their responsible conduct, attributing the peaceful state of the education sector to their discipline and constructive engagement. The governor made the remarks during a meeting with student representatives at the Governor’s Office in Akure on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted ongoing efforts to address student challenges, including accommodation and electricity supply at campuses, and called on private investors to build hostels to complement government initiatives. He also emphasized his administration’s focus on technical and vocational education, describing it as essential for industrial growth, job creation, and youth empowerment. “We are paying more attention to technical education. Investors are coming, and they will need skilled labour,” he said. The governor further announced the approval of five new buses for student bodies, with more planned for the future.
Student leaders, including NANS JCC Chairman Comrade Mayomi Adekanye and NAOSS President Comrade Temitope Alade, commended the governor’s efforts, while appealing for continued support in areas such as security, transportation, and welfare. Representatives of female students urged prioritization of safety, particularly for hostels far from campuses. Governor Aiyedatiwa also updated participants on infrastructure projects such as the Akungba–Ikare road reconstruction, aimed at reducing accidents and boosting local commerce.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development through scholarships, bursaries, grants, and other interventions. He stressed collaboration between government and private stakeholders to ensure that students are empowered and educational facilities are enhanced across the state.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun; Attorney General, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, among others.
