Akwa Ibom Gears Up to Host Major Conferences, Invests in World-Class Tourism Infrastructure

UYO, Nigeria — Akwa Ibom State is positioning itself as a premier destination for national and international conferences, with ongoing investments in world-class tourism and event infrastructure.

Governor Umo Eno provided the assurance during a breakfast meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Government House, Uyo. The SPIDEL team, led by Chairman Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN, briefed the Governor on preparations for the upcoming SPIDEL 2025 Conference scheduled for December 5 to 8, 2025, in the State capital.

Governor Eno highlighted ongoing projects, including the 5,000-capacity International Convention Centre, the ARISE Resort, and upgrades at the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, aimed at attracting major events, fostering tourism, and promoting investment. He assured that the state government will fully support the successful hosting of the SPIDEL conference.

“We are building facilities that meet global standards so that Akwa Ibom can continue to attract major events and visitors. We thank the NBA–SPIDEL for choosing Uyo, which aligns with our ARISE Agenda to promote tourism, investment, and intellectual collaboration,” Governor Eno said.

SPIDEL Chairman Prof. Ananaba praised the Governor for the developmental progress achieved in Akwa Ibom, describing the state as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing destinations. He confirmed that the upcoming conference will bring together over 2,000 delegates from across Nigeria and beyond, offering an opportunity to showcase the state’s hospitality, serene environment, and investment potential.

The delegation included members of the Local Organizing Committee, while Governor Eno was joined by key officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Aniefiok Johnson; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN; and other commissioners and senior aides.

The SPIDEL 2025 Conference is expected to boost the state’s profile as a hub for intellectual engagement, tourism, and business investment.
