Ilorin, October 14, 2025 — Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and the Nigerian labour and civil rights movement on the passing of Comrade Abiodun ‘Aremson’ Aremu, a distinguished ideologue and activist, who died on the evening of Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Comrade Aremu, a Kwara-born internationalist, was widely respected for his pivotal involvement in numerous pro-people, left-leaning, and ideological organisations in Nigeria. His engagements spanned the United Action for Democracy (UAD), Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO), Joint Action Forum (JAF), Amilcar Cabral Institute of Ideological Studies (ACIS), the Nigerian Movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara, and the Nigerian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.

Governor AbdulRazaq described the late activist as a titan of many struggles, a courageous teacher, and a principled leader whose commitment to progressive causes earned him the respect of the Nigerian left and labour movement. “He led a selfless and disciplined life, offering his shoulder for many young people to lean on as their leader and inspirer,” the Governor said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

The Governor urged the late Comrade Aremu’s family, friends, and associates to find comfort in his enduring legacy, praying that God grants him eternal rest and provides strength to those mourning his loss.

Comrade Aremu’s passing marks the end of an era for many progressive movements in Nigeria, leaving behind a legacy of courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to social justice and human rights.
