The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, hosted members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Awka Branch, and its Human Rights Committee at the State Police Command Headquarters on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The meeting was aimed at reinforcing collaboration between the police and legal professionals to enhance justice delivery, safeguard human rights, and boost public confidence in the criminal justice system.
CP Orutugu commended the NBA leadership for their continued advocacy and partnership, highlighting the strategic importance of the police-lawyer alliance in ensuring the rule of law. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and strict respect for human rights, especially in oversight duties such as cell inspections and pro bono services for suspects, emphasizing that all police operations must align with legal standards.
The NBA representatives, including the Chairman of the Awka Branch and the Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee, praised the police for their open-door policy and efforts to improve police-community relations. They expressed their readiness to work with the Anambra Police in training, awareness campaigns, and mediation efforts on human rights issues.
