Former Kaduna State Governor and Leader of the ADC Coalition, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, recently visited Maiduguri, Borno State, where he held meetings with state leaders and engaged directly with women’s and youth groups. The visit forms part of his broader strategy to build grassroots support for the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
El-Rufai has been actively consolidating opposition forces across Nigeria. Earlier in Sokoto State, he led a coalition delegation, calling for political change and urging voters not to allow the APC to maintain power. In Kaduna, he oversaw the merger of the Social Democratic Party’s local chapter into the ADC, describing it as a union founded on unity and foresight rather than just an alliance of party structures.
His political activities have not been without controversy. A coalition meeting in Kaduna reportedly came under attack from armed thugs, an incident he condemned as a dangerous descent into lawlessness. In Abuja, he joined other opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, to formally launch the ADC coalition at a national level, signaling the party’s ambitions beyond regional politics.
Through these efforts, El-Rufai is not only mobilizing grassroots support but also positioning himself as a key national figure in the opposition landscape. While his gatherings have faced backlash, they underscore his determination to forge a broad-based coalition that could reshape Nigeria’s political scene ahead of the 2027 general elections.
