The Department of State Services (DSS) has carried out a major breakthrough in its fight against armed violence in northern Nigeria with the arrest of a suspected key arms producer and supplier.
According to security officials, “The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspected key arms manufacturer and supplier, Musa Abubakar, believed to be linked to violent armed groups operating in Plateau State and other parts of northern Nigeria.”
Abubakar was arrested on 12 November 2025, after what authorities described as a precise, intelligence-led operation. DSS operatives tracked him to an alleged weapons-production site in the Mista Ali area of Bassa Local Government, where the raid was conducted. As quoted, the arrest followed “…precise intelligence that led DSS operatives to his alleged weapons-production site located in the Mista Ali area of Bassa Local Government Area.”
Security sources say the suspect has already made significant confessions. “According to security sources, the suspect confessed to manufacturing and distributing high-calibre weapons and ammunition to criminal groups responsible for recurring attacks in Plateau and surrounding regions.”
During the operation, DSS recovered a range of dangerous materials, including parts of improvised explosive devices, chemicals, and equipment used for arms production. Officials confirmed that “Items recovered during the raid include components of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), chemicals, and various equipment reportedly used in arms production.”
All seized materials have been taken into custody for ongoing investigation. “DSS sources confirmed that all recovered materials have been confiscated as part of ongoing investigations.”
This latest arrest is coming shortly after the DSS successfully recaptured notorious terrorist commander Abdulazeez Obadaki, popularly known as Bomboy. Authorities noted, “The arrest comes on the heels of the recent recapture of notorious terrorist commander Abdulazeez Obadaki, also known as Bomboy…”
Bomboy is widely known for his link to major attacks, including “…the Owo church attack and the 2022 Deeper Life Church massacre.”
Security experts say these recent breakthroughs reflect intensified efforts by the DSS to dismantle terror networks and stop the flow of illegal arms fueling violence across the country. As observers stated, “Security observers say the successes underscore the DSS’s intensified efforts to dismantle terror cells and curb the proliferation of illegal arms across the country.”
The development also follows earlier operations where nine high-profile suspects were arrested for attacks in Plateau and Benue states. According to officials, “The development follows earlier DSS operations that led to the arrest of nine high-profile suspects involved in attacks across Plateau and Benue States…”
Among those earlier apprehended is “…46-year-old Timna Manjol of Mangu LGA, who has already pleaded guilty to charges related to illegal possession of firearms.”
The DSS is expected to continue its crackdowns as part of a broader national strategy to reduce the escalating cycle of violence in northern Nigeria.
