The Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, has called for stronger collaboration with the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) as the state intensifies its campaign against the rising wave of digital violence targeting women and girls.
During a meeting with FIDA Ondo State Chapter, Dr Osamaye reaffirmed Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa’s commitment to eliminating all forms of discrimination and abuse, especially those now occurring online through cyberbullying, deepfakes, harassment, and image-based violations.
She disclosed that the Ministry has lined up a series of activities for the 2025 16 Days of Activism, which will run from November 25 to December 10, focusing specifically on technology-facilitated violence.
Dr Osamaye explained that the campaign “focuses on the growing issue of violence against women and girls online,” noting that the state will intensify awareness across sectors, with a special day dedicated to social media advocacy. She added that digital abuse has become as damaging as physical harm and urged victims to speak up and report cases.
The Commissioner also commended FIDA for its legal support to women and children and expressed readiness for deeper collaboration, stating that the Ministry’s mandate aligns with the Federation’s mission to protect the vulnerable.
Earlier, FIDA Chairperson Bar. Olafunmiloye Bolanle praised the Governor for appointing Dr Osamaye, calling her “a round peg in a round hole.” She emphasised the group’s dedication to defending the rights of women and children, offering free legal services and ongoing public sensitisation.
FIDA also called for the swift passage of the reserve bill for women, while inviting the Commissioner to its Annual Week scheduled for December 4–9, 2025, themed “Turning Policy into Action: Advancing the Role of Women Through Law and Governance.” The Governor and First Lady will be named Patron and Matron of the Federation during the event.
Top officials of the Ministry, including directors from Social Welfare, Women Affairs, Planning, and Finance, were present to receive the delegations .
