Amnesty International has expressed deep concern over what it calls desperate and unlawful efforts to silence Malam Yahya Massuka, a respected Islamic cleric known for preaching peacefully. The organization warns that these actions appear to be sectarian and aimed at suppressing his voice.

Malam Yahya Massuka has gained recognition for promoting dialogue and condemning violent extremism. However, recent attempts are said to involve manipulating government powers to shut down his schools and silence his teachings, despite there being no evidence that he has broken any laws.

Amnesty International condemns this pattern of intolerance, which undermines fundamental freedoms—particularly the right to freedom of religion and thought. The organization states that targeting Malam Yahya Massuka simply for speaking out peacefully is unjust and dangerous.

Under Nigeria’s constitution and international law, everyone has the right to practice their religion and express their opinions without fear or intimidation. The Nigerian government is urged to protect the rights and safety of Malam Yahya Massuka and all citizens, in line with the country’s human rights obligations.

This situation highlights ongoing concerns about religious freedom and the need for the government to uphold the rights of peaceful speakers and religious leaders in Nigeria.
