The Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a lawyer, Barrister Steve Adamu, before the Kaduna State High Court. He faces a single charge of providing false information to the commission.
According to EFCC, Adamu on September 15, 2022, deliberately gave false claims, alleging that his landlord was earning more than his legitimate income and owned luxury vehicles and land property. However, investigators later found these claims to be false and malicious.
During the court session, Adamu pleaded not guilty. The prosecution requested a date to start the trial, while his defense lawyer asked for bail.
The judge, Justice Darius Khobo, ordered that Adamu be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kaduna. The bail hearing has been scheduled for December 20, 2025.
This case was initiated after Adamu himself filed a petition, which led to an EFCC investigation. The investigation revealed that his allegations were false, resulting in his arrest and prosecution.
