Kano State took part in the 2025 National Council on Health Meeting held in Calabar, Cross River State. This meeting is the highest gathering of Nigeria’s health policymakers, where officials from the federal and state governments, development partners, and health experts come together to review progress and plan future health priorities.

During the event, Kano’s Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, reaffirmed the state’s strong commitment to improving healthcare services and continuing reforms to make life better for Kano residents.

Dr. Yusuf also contributed to discussions on important national health policies, making sure they meet the specific needs of Kano. He highlighted that the state remains dedicated to key goals like strengthening primary healthcare, improving disease tracking, boosting health funding, and working towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which means making sure everyone can access quality health services.

He pointed out that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s government is focused on investing in health infrastructure and building partnerships to improve health services across Kano.

The meeting was a great opportunity for different states to share ideas, learn from each other, and coordinate their efforts with the federal government’s plans to create a stronger, more efficient health system for Nigeria.

Dr. Yusuf concluded that Kano is committed to following the decisions made at the council and will continue working with all stakeholders to ensure a healthier, brighter future for the people of Kano.

This statement was issued by Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na'isa, Public Relations Officer of the Kano Ministry of Health, on November 22, 2025.
