Lagos, Nigeria – November 22, 2025 – Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday inaugurated a 233-unit modern housing project in the Abraham Adesanya area of Eti-Osa, Ajah, as part of his administration’s ongoing effort to bridge the housing deficit for low- and middle-income families.
Delivered through a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) with Urban Shelter Limited, the project includes blocks of flats and terrace homes designed to improve living standards and expand Lagos’ housing stock.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of private sector participation in tackling Lagos’ urban housing demands, stating:
“It is clear that Lagos, as the epicenter of Nigeria's urbanization and a rapidly growing population, needs more private sector-led solutions in housing development. The demand keeps growing far faster than the supply, and this affects every social class.”
The state government provides land as equity while partners contribute financing and technical expertise, with supervision by state technical teams to ensure high standards. A 40% rebate on permits and other tax incentives have been offered to maintain affordability and encourage private investment.
Highlighting accountability, the Governor warned contractors who fail to meet timelines or comply with required standards:
“Projects contracted to private partners but not completed within the agreed time frame, or not compliant with required quality and standards, are undergoing review for revocation.”
Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, praised Urban Shelter Limited for professionalism and adherence to quality standards. He added:
“Through ongoing and upcoming projects, reforms, and partnerships, we will continue to unlock more opportunities, promote home ownership, and deliver developments that are safe, inclusive, and future-ready.”
The initiative is part of a broader state policy aimed at leveraging public-private partnerships to deliver affordable housing solutions, with over 11,000 homes delivered across income levels in the last six years, including a recent 420-unit project in Ajara, Badagry.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged beneficiaries to take ownership and protect the infrastructure, stressing that community engagement is vital to sustaining the impact of the housing projects.
