The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has appointed SP Orvenonne Ikwen as the new National Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV). This campaign is a major initiative by the Nigeria Police Force to fight cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, and other social problems through peaceful, community-based efforts.
The appointment aims to support the IGP’s vision of a modern police force that uses intelligence, technology, and community engagement to prevent crime early and build trust with the public.
SP Ikwen is a highly experienced police officer and expert in strategic communication. She has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Calabar, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. She has contributed to technology-driven policing, public relations, and behavioral change campaigns.
She is a member of important professional groups, including the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria and the Institute of Conflict Management & Negotiation Analysts. She has also been involved in police reform projects and inter-agency collaborations.
As the new head of POCACOV, SP Ikwen is expected to expand the campaign’s activities across universities, schools, communities, and youth groups. Her work will focus on key issues like cultism, drug abuse, cyber vulnerabilities, gender-based violence, and misinformation — all through preventive and community-focused strategies.
The IGP has urged her to develop innovative ways to prevent crime and to work closely with community leaders, educational institutions, youth organizations, and other partners committed to fighting social vices.
The appointment was announced on November 22, 2025, by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer.
