Zamfara State Government has taken a major step toward operationalising the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology (FUHST), Tsafe, by setting up a transition committee to oversee the full merger of the College of Health Sciences and Technology (CHST), Tsafe, into the new institution.

Announcing the development, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, said the committee would ensure a smooth and transparent transfer of structures, students, and eligible staff from the state-owned college to the federal university. The move is designed to avoid disruptions and ensure that the university begins academic activities on a solid foundation.

According to Nakwada, the committee’s work includes verifying the academic records and programme structures of current CHST students and recommending pathways that align with JAMB requirements, NUC regulations, and existing university standards. It will also assess qualifications and experience of CHST staff to determine who is qualified for absorption into the federal university system.

Beyond staffing and academic matters, the committee has also been tasked with recommending suitable land areas for the institution’s future expansion and examining whether the CHST should be relocated to another part of the state to support long-term development plans.

The transition team comprises prominent academics, commissioners, governing council leaders, senior university officials, and top government administrators, led by Prof. Lawal S. Bilbis as chairman.

This move follows Zamfara State Government’s earlier pledge—made during a Senate public hearing in May 2024—to donate the entire facilities of CHST Tsafe as the permanent site of the new university. The gesture reinforced Governor Dauda Lawal’s commitment to expanding access to specialised education and boosting development in the state.

The press statement was issued by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Secretary to the State Government.
