The Edo State Police Command has arrested a woman known as “Madam Oil Rice” for spreading a false story on social media. She claimed that she was kidnapped along Upper Sakponba Road in Benin City, and that police rescued her, detained her at Akpata Police Station, and collected Ten Thousand Naira as bail.

However, the police quickly investigated the report and found that it was completely fake and deliberately false. During questioning, 24-year-old Osarobo Omoyemen admitted she fabricated the story to attract followers and generate content for her TikTok page.

Investigators also discovered that she had deleted a previous video showing an accomplice appealing to viewers to follow her, revealing her real motive. Her false claim was not only misleading but also dangerous, as it could have incited hostility against the police and caused unnecessary tension in the state.

Osarobo Omoyemen has been arrested and charged to court on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The police are still searching for her accomplices to ensure they face full legal action.

The police warn that spreading fake news like this is dangerous and can disrupt peace and security. They urge members of the public to verify information before sharing it and to avoid acts that could mislead others or undermine security efforts.

The Edo State Police reaffirm their commitment to keeping the state safe and peaceful. This statement was issued by CSP Moses Joel Yamu, Police Public Relations Officer of Edo State, on November 22, 2025.
