Communities in Kaduna State are once again under pressure as farmers report a resurgence of violence and theft by individuals previously labeled as “repentant bandits.” According to a representative of the affected farmers, the group has returned to terrorizing rural settlements, stealing livestock, and worsening the hardship already facing impoverished families.
In just one week, the farmers recorded the loss of 97 cattle, a devastating blow for households that rely heavily on livestock for survival. Residents say the renewed attacks raise serious questions about the effectiveness of rehabilitation efforts and the decision to reintegrate armed groups without strong monitoring mechanisms.
The farmers warn that the continued raids not only deepen poverty but also undermine food production in a region that depends on smallholder agriculture. They are calling for urgent government intervention to protect rural communities and prevent further breakdown of security.
As fear grows across Kaduna’s farming belts, locals say the return of these “repentant” fighters has left them feeling abandoned, vulnerable, and unsure of where the next attack may come from.
