As part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal gangs in southern Taraba, the Nigerian Army has apprehended a suspected high-profile kidnap leader in the region. The arrest was carried out under Operation Zafin Wuta, a military initiative aimed at curbing kidnapping and other violent crimes.
According to a statement released on Monday by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, the suspect, identified as Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, was taken into custody on 23 November 2025 during a covert operation in Wukari Local Government Area.
The Nigerian Army has not disclosed further details about the suspect’s alleged network or next steps but emphasized that the operation is part of a broader effort to restore peace and security in the area.
This capture represents a significant move against criminal gangs destabilizing communities in southern Taraba, signaling the army’s commitment to protecting residents and dismantling networks behind abductions and violent crimes.
