The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Monday as a faction loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the party’s recent national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2501/2025, was filed by the PDP faction along with Acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, all aligned with the Wike camp. The plaintiffs are asking the court to declare the November 15–16 Ibadan convention and all decisions taken there as “null, void, and of no effect.”
According to the suit, the convention violated three existing judgments of the Federal High Court, which had previously nullified the 21-day notice issued for the convention and expressly restrained the party from holding such an exercise.
The faction’s move underscores the deepening internal rift within the PDP, raising questions about party leadership, legitimacy of decisions taken at the Ibadan
convention, and potential legal battles ahead.
“[The November 15–16 Ibadan convention and all decisions taken there are] null, void, and of no effect.”
The court is expected to review the suit in the coming days, marking a critical moment in the ongoing struggle for control within Nigeria’s main opposition party.
