The Edo State Government has announced plans to deepen collaboration with key players in Nigeria’s real estate sector as part of efforts to accelerate housing development under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda. The proposed partnership with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) was disclosed by the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Hon. Yakubu Musa, during a meeting with the association in Benin City.

Hon. Musa said the Okpebholo administration is prioritizing the expansion of housing opportunities across the state and has earmarked 250 hectares of land for development. Portions of this land, he revealed, have already been allocated to federal institutions including the Federal Housing Authority, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), among others.

The Commissioner noted that the State Government is open to partnerships with reputable real estate developers, while also undertaking the construction of government-owned estates targeted at Civil and Public Servants. The initiative, he explained, aims to increase access to affordable housing for government employees and improve the state’s overall housing landscape.

Supporting the Commissioner’s remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Akhigbe, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating housing development through enabling policies and professional guidance. She emphasized that part of the Ministry’s mandate is to assist real estate developers and the public in navigating land and housing regulations, ensuring transparency and efficiency.

Responding on behalf of REDAN, the association’s Chairman, Comrade Aruna Abubakari, commended Hon. Musa on his appointment, describing it as a well-deserved recognition. He assured the State Government of REDAN’s full cooperation, stating that the association remains committed to partnering with the Ministry to drive sustainable growth and development in Edo State’s housing sector.

The engagement, attended by REDAN executives and senior Ministry officials, underscores the Okpebholo administration’s broader goal of expanding housing availability, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that land resources are optimally utilized to benefit Edo residents.
