Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled an ambush by armed bandits and rescued a kidnapped victim during a coordinated security operation around the Oshokoshoko–Obajana axis in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of 25 November 2025, followed credible intelligence that bandits were moving through the corridor with abducted persons. Acting on the tip-off, troops from the Kabba Patrol Base, in collaboration with other hybrid security forces, launched a special ambush to intercept the criminals.

According to the Army, the bandits opened fire upon sighting the troops, but were quickly overpowered by superior firepower. The fierce exchange forced the criminals to flee in disarray, leaving one of their members neutralized while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

During the operation, soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle and successfully rescued one kidnapped victim. The victim, found weak and distressed, was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent medical attention.

Army authorities say follow-up operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing bandits, with troops expanding their sweep across surrounding areas.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks in Kogi State and ensuring the safety of residents. It also urged community members to continue providing reliable information that can support swift security responses.
