Victor Osimhen, the star striker of the Super Eagles and Galatasaray, has revealed the lasting impact of a serious facial injury that nearly ended his football career. In an interview with MMA champion Kerim Engizek, Osimhen shared that he now has to eat only on the right side of his mouth for the rest of his life because of permanent metal implants in his jaw.

The injury happened during Napoli’s 3–2 defeat to Inter Milan at the San Siro. Osimhen collided with Milan Skriniar while contesting a header and briefly lost consciousness. Medical scans later confirmed he had multiple fractures on the left side of his face, including a broken jaw and damage around his eye.

Doctors told him surgery was the only way to save his career. The operation involved inserting several plates and eighteen screws to stabilize his jaw. The recovery process was extremely painful, making it difficult for him to eat and sleep. Osimhen recounted that the injury occurred in 2021 and explained, “I hit my jaw on his head, and the bones on the left side of my face were cracked everywhere. The doctor told me surgery was the only way if I wanted to continue playing. Now, I only eat on the right side of my face for the rest of my life; the left side is held together by metal implants, so I can’t risk it.”

To protect his face during matches, Osimhen continues to wear a safety mask. Despite these permanent changes, he remains one of the most fearless forwards in world football, often challenging defenders in the air and scoring many goals from headers.
