A swift joint operation by Tactical Operatives, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Akwuzu, and SPACS Enugu-Ukwu has led to the recovery of a white Mercedes-Benz SUV used by armed criminals who attacked a police patrol team in Eziowelle, along Umuoji Road, Anambra State.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspects opened fire on the patrol team, triggering a heated gun duel. The attackers were forced to abandon their vehicle as they fled the scene.
One police officer sustained a minor injury during the exchange and is reported to be in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the convoy involved in the incident included officers attached to Senator Chris Ngige.
The recovered SUV is now in police custody as security agencies launch a coordinated, state-wide manhunt for the fleeing gunmen.
SP Ikenga assured residents that more updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
