A fresh wave of insecurity has hit Kogi State as bandits launched a violent attack on travellers along the Osokoko–Obajana axis, abducting passengers in broad daylight.

According to sources familiar with the incident, two commercial 18-seater buses ran into the armed gang during the assault. One of the buses was overpowered and passengers taken away, while the second bus narrowly escaped.

Residents say the incident is the latest in a troubling pattern of kidnappings on major highways connecting Kogi to neighbouring states — a development that has heightened fear among commuters and raised urgent concerns about the safety of Nigeria’s inter-state road network.

Security experts warn that repeated attacks along this corridor point to a growing boldness among armed criminal groups who continue to exploit gaps in patrol coverage.

No official statement had been issued by security agencies as of the time of filing this report, and the number of abducted passengers remains unclear.

The attack has once again revived calls for intensified security operations and surveillance on the state’s key transport routes, especially with the festive travel season approaching.
