Lagos, Nigeria – November 2025: The Sahara Group Foundation (SGF) has awarded over USD 130,000 to 20 promising African entrepreneurs, known as EXTRApreneurs, in a bid to boost innovation and economic growth across the continent. The grants were presented at a gala night in Lagos under the Sahara Impact Fund (SIF) Cohort 4 and Making A Difference Around Africa (MADAA) initiatives.
The 2025 programme attracted more than 2,000 applications, with a rigorous selection process narrowing the field to 300 innovators who participated in a Capacity-Building Workshop covering business strategy, governance, financial advisory, brand positioning, and stakeholder engagement. From this pool, 20 entrepreneurs advanced to a Business Advisory Bootcamp and the Sahara M.A.D Den, ultimately receiving grants to scale their businesses.
Speaking on the initiative, SGF executives said:
"Our goal is not only to provide grants but also to offer business intelligence, financial strategy, governance discipline, and commercial readiness enabling these entrepreneurs to grow sustainably across African markets."
Among the top beneficiaries receiving USD 10,000 each were Chinwendu Augustina Nweke of Nigeria, Elvis Kadhama of Uganda, Violet Awo Amoabeng of Ghana, Tracey Shiundu of Kenya, and Salma Medhat of Egypt. Additional grants of USD 5,000 and USD 1,000 were awarded to support other social enterprises across Africa.
SGF emphasized that combining funding, mentorship, and structured advisory support ensures that these EXTRApreneurs are not only financially empowered but also prepared to create transformative social and economic impact, enhancing their competitiveness in global markets.
The Sahara Group Foundation continues its commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa, targeting ventures capable of driving sustainable development and prosperity across the continent.
