Borno State — Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully rescued 12 teenage girls abducted by ISWAP terrorists in the Mussa District of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, security sources confirmed on Sunday.
The girls, aged between 15 and 20, were kidnapped on November 23, 2025, while harvesting crops on their family farms, an incident that triggered panic and forced many residents to flee to neighbouring communities.
Although details of the rescue operation remain sketchy, sources revealed that several individuals played significant roles in securing the girls’ safe return. It is unclear whether any ransom was paid or the exact circumstances that led to their release.
The rescued girls have been moved to a secure military location for medical evaluation and profiling before they are reunited with their families. Their names include Fatima Shaibu, Fatima Umaru, Hauwa Abubakar, Saliha Muhammed, Sadiya Umaru, Amira Babel, Zara Adamu, Nana Shaibu, Zainab Musa, Zainab Muhammed, Jamila Saidu, and Hauwa Hamidu.
The rescue coincides with intensified military operations in southern Borno targeting ISWAP remnants responsible for recurrent attacks and abductions. Parents of the rescued girls expressed relief, describing the development as a “major emotional breakthrough” after a week of fear and uncertainty.
The military’s operation underscores ongoing efforts to restore security and protect vulnerable communities in Borno State, where insurgent activity continues to pose a serious threat
