Pandemonium erupted in Atan-Ota, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Sunday after a suspected cult clash claimed the life of a man identified only as Moses.

A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, alleged that members of the Aye Confraternity hacked Moses to death. Disturbing video footage obtained by PUNCH Metro showed the victim lying face down as suspected cultists repeatedly struck his right wrist with machetes, muttering in pidgin, “We are the ones in charge.” Another clip captured his lifeless body with a severely mutilated wrist as mourners wailed his name, crying out, “Moses, my God.”

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed Moses’ death. Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Omolola Odutola responded simply, “Yes,” when asked about the incident.

Police say the killing is part of an ongoing supremacy battle between rival cult groups in the area. While Ogun State has recorded fewer cult-related clashes in recent times, the incident underscores the growing threat of cult violence in the South-West. In neighbouring Lagos State, more than 10 people have been killed in similar attacks within less than 10 days.

Residents and security observers are calling for urgent action to tackle cult-related violence, which continues to claim lives and disrupt communities in the region.
