Last night, bandits launched a deadly attack on two communities in Kano State, raising serious concerns about security in the region. The villages of Unguwar Tsamiya in Faruruwa and Dabawa in Shanono Local Government Area were targeted, with reports indicating that at least 25 residents were abducted. Two people were injured during the assault, which caused widespread fear among residents.
This attack came less than 24 hours after a similar incident in Yan Kamaye, a community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, near the border with Katsina State. The repeated nature of these attacks has many questioning the effectiveness of the peace agreement between Kano and Katsina states, especially in the local government areas that share borders.
Residents and security experts are now asking: What is the true value of the peace deal in these border areas? Despite efforts to restore calm, the attacks suggest that criminal groups are still active and capable of striking repeatedly, leaving communities vulnerable and residents fearful for their safety.
Authorities in Kano State have confirmed the incidents and are working to rescue the abducted residents and restore peace. However, many residents remain anxious, demanding more effective security measures and stronger collaboration between neighboring states to prevent further attacks.
As insecurity continues to threaten peace along the Kano-Katsina border, questions linger about whether existing peace agreements are enough or if more decisive actions are needed to protect the people and restore lasting security in the region.
