Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola has been declared the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 2026.

Adedamola secured a total of 919 votes to clinch the party’s ticket during the primary election held on Tuesday at Adolak Hall in Osogbo. His victory was confirmed after Ademola Adeleke, who was initially listed as a contestant, formally resigned from the PDP before the exercise.

Humphrey Abba, chairman of the electoral committee, stated that a total of 20 votes were invalid. He explained, “Void votes 20. We told you earlier that one of the aspirants withdrew. The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned.”

Additionally, Sunday Solarin, secretary of the electoral committee, clarified that although Adeleke announced his resignation from the party, the timing was too late to effect any changes on the ballot. He said, “Adeleke announced his resignation on Monday night when the ballot had already been prepared, and it was too late to produce a new one.”

He further explained, “There were two aspirants vying for the PDP ticket, but since Governor Ademola Adeleke resigned late on Monday, only Adedamola remained as the official PDP candidate for the election.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun governorship election for August 8, 2026.
