Plateau State witnessed another wave of violence over the weekend as armed assailants attacked Chakfem community in Mangu Local Government Area, leaving three residents dead and five others injured.
According to Bulus Dabit, National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), the attack occurred around 3 a.m. on Sunday when gunmen stormed the community and opened fire indiscriminately.
Dabit confirmed the casualties, stating, “The assailants stormed the community around 3 a.m. on Sunday and started shooting sporadically.”
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but residents fear a growing pattern of targeted violence in rural Plateau communities. Local authorities have yet to release a statement on security measures or investigations into the incident.
The attack underscores the persistent insecurity in Plateau State, where communities continue to grapple with armed banditry, communal clashes, and sporadic violent attacks that threaten lives and livelihoods.
Residents are calling on state and federal security agencies to increase patrols, engage in proactive intelligence gathering, and implement sustainable strategies to protect vulnerable communities.
Stone Reporters notes that this attack mirrors previous violent incidents in Plateau State, highlighting gaps in security coverage and the urgent need for coordinated responses to prevent further loss of life.
