In a bold push toward an inclusive and economically stable society, the Osun State Government has empowered 250 persons with disabilities with financial grants aimed at boosting their small-scale businesses. The initiative, facilitated through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and championed by the Osun First Lady, Chief Mrs Titilola Adebusola Adeleke, marks the state’s official commemoration of the 2025 World Disability Day.
Held at the Government House, Oke-Fia, in Osogbo, each beneficiary received ₦200,000, a support package designed to lift physically challenged individuals out of poverty and help them build sustainable income sources. The gesture reflects the year’s theme: “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies For Advancing Social Progress.”
Mrs Adeleke stressed that the real progress of any society lies in its ability to carry everyone along, especially vulnerable groups who often face structural disadvantages.
“Our nation grows stronger when every individual is empowered to contribute meaningfully,” she said, urging beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to secure financial independence and contribute to Osun’s economy.
She also applauded Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for the multiple interventions rolled out through the Renewed Hope Initiative nationwide, describing them as impactful and timely.
Wives of commissioners, including Dr (Mrs) Olunike Adeleke of Budget and Economic Planning and Mrs Kemi Ojo of Culture and Tourism, were present at the event and commended the initiative for its consistency and direct impact on vulnerable citizens.
The empowerment programme signals the state’s renewed commitment to economic inclusion, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in the push for social progress and sustainable development.
