Several residents, including men, women and children, have reportedly been abducted by suspected bandits during an attack on Waramu community in Anka, deepening fresh security concerns in parts of Zamfara State already battling persistent armed violence and mass kidnappings.
According to reports from local sources, the attackers invaded the community and carried out the abduction operation amid fear and confusion among residents. The exact number of victims has not yet been officially confirmed as of the time of reporting, while security authorities are yet to release a formal statement regarding the incident.
Residents familiar with the area said the attack caused panic across neighbouring communities, with many families reportedly fleeing for safety over fears of additional attacks. Sources also indicated that the abducted victims included vulnerable residents such as women and children, a pattern increasingly seen in rural attacks linked to armed groups operating across northwestern Nigeria.
Zamfara State has remained one of the states most affected by banditry, kidnappings, village raids and armed attacks in recent years. Several local government areas including Anka, Bukkuyum, Maru, Shinkafi and Tsafe have repeatedly witnessed deadly incidents involving heavily armed gangs who target communities, travellers and farmers.
Security operations by Nigerian troops and other security agencies have continued across the region, with authorities repeatedly announcing offensives against criminal camps in forested areas across Zamfara and neighbouring states. Despite these operations, attacks and abductions have continued to affect many rural communities.
The latest incident in Waramu community adds to growing concerns among residents over insecurity, especially in remote villages where access to rapid security response remains difficult. Community leaders and residents in affected areas have repeatedly called for stronger protection measures and sustained security presence to prevent further attacks.
At the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation regarding possible casualties, ransom demands or rescue operations connected to the reported abduction.
