Residents of Tsaragi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have been thrown into fear following a late-night attack by suspected bandits that reportedly left one person feared dead and another abducted.
According to local accounts, the incident reportedly occurred between about 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, when heavily armed attackers stormed the residence of a resident identified as Baba Nnayaya in Tsaragi main town.
Sources within the community said panic spread across the area as gunshots were allegedly heard during the operation, forcing many residents to remain indoors while others reportedly fled for safety. Early reports from local residents indicated that one person was feared killed during the attack, while another victim was allegedly taken away by the attackers.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not officially confirmed the casualty figure or the identity of the abducted victim. Details surrounding the circumstances of the attack also remained limited, while residents awaited further updates from security agencies.
The latest incident has renewed security concerns among residents of Edu Local Government Area and surrounding communities, where fears over armed attacks and kidnappings have continued to grow in recent years. Although Kwara State has not experienced the scale of banditry seen in some northwestern states, several border communities have increasingly reported security threats linked to armed criminal groups operating across parts of the North Central region.
Community members have repeatedly called for stronger security presence and improved surveillance, especially in rural areas vulnerable to night attacks and abductions. Residents in Tsaragi and nearby communities were reportedly left shaken by the latest development, with fears that additional attacks could occur if security measures are not intensified.
Security operatives were said to have been alerted following the incident, though there was no immediate official statement confirming arrests, rescue efforts or ongoing operations connected to the attack.
The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity affecting several communities across Nigeria, where kidnappings, armed raids and violent attacks continue to challenge local residents and security authorities.
