Gunfire Rocks Niger Community as Vigilantes Foil Bandit Attack in Mariga LGA

Residents of Mangwaro community in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State have been thrown into relief after local vigilantes successfully repelled an attack by suspected bandits following a fierce gun battle that lasted for about an hour.

The incident reportedly occurred earlier on Wednesday morning when the armed attackers attempted to invade the community, but were met with resistance from local security volunteers who engaged them in a heavy exchange of gunfire.

Sources from the area said the confrontation lasted for several minutes before the vigilantes gained the upper hand, forcing the attackers to retreat. During the encounter, two suspected bandits were reportedly killed, while several others escaped with injuries sustained from the gunfire.
