Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has launched a blistering attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of attempting to stifle development in Osun State and branding its members "backward" for allegedly opposing the progress being championed by his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke. The singer made the remarks on Monday, August 10, 2026, while reacting to the massive crowd that turned out for the inauguration of the Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife, a major infrastructure project executed by the Adeleke administration.

Sharing videos of the enthusiastic crowd at the inauguration on his X account, Davido wrote: "Jesus, see Ile-Ife crowd!! For @AAdeleke_01!!! Done deal! You can't stop God's project". The singer then turned his attention to the APC, questioning the party's opposition to projects that benefit the people of Osun. "APC is just backward. Why would they be doing anything to stop progress? Thought y'all were progressives?" he asked.

The Lagere Flyover, located at the busy Lagere Junction in Ile-Ife, was flagged off by Governor Adeleke in May 2024 as part of his administration's efforts to ease traffic congestion in the ancient city. The project, which includes the dualisation of the Mayfair Roundabout–Palace Junction Road, has been reported to cost about N14.9 billion. The flyover connects the Lagere area towards Iremo Road and the axis leading to the Ooni of Ife's Palace, with the wider project expected to improve traffic flow and connectivity within the city.

The inauguration attracted a large crowd of residents, supporters and other stakeholders, with videos from the event circulating widely on social media. Davido, who has been a vocal supporter of his uncle's administration, appeared to mock the opposition's efforts to mobilise influencers and supporters for political events, writing: "Belt to ass this weekend!!!! If you like, pay 100,000 influencers nah. Free hotel and food, dem come for".

Davido's comments come just days before the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, in which Governor Adeleke is seeking re-election against the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The singer has been one of Adeleke's most vocal supporters and has repeatedly used his large social media following to defend the governor and promote his administration. His latest remarks add to the political exchanges between supporters of the ruling party in the state and the opposition as the election approaches.

The singer's criticism of the APC is not without context. Davido had previously appealed to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the APC National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election, to use his influence to promote peace and ensure that Osun residents were allowed to freely choose their preferred candidate. Uzodimma responded by distancing himself from comments made by his aide, Ambrose Nwogwugwu, and declaring that he was not an electorate in Osun State. The APC campaign council has also accused Davido of exploiting vulnerable youths.

The Adeleke administration has placed considerable emphasis on road construction, rehabilitation and dualisation as part of its development programme. The Lagere Flyover is one of several major infrastructure projects undertaken by the governor in the ancient city. The project's significance is linked to the area's role as a major entry and movement point in Ile-Ife, where traffic congestion has remained a concern around busy junctions.

As the Osun State governorship election draws near, Davido's remarks have added fuel to an already heated political campaign. Whether his declaration that Adeleke's re-election is "God's project" will resonate with voters remains to be seen, but the singer has made his position unmistakably clear: in his view, the APC stands in the way of progress, and nothing – not even the ruling party – can stop what God has ordained.
