Nigerian cleric Apostle Joshua Aghasedo has ignited a firestorm of debate after declaring that the use of adult toys within marriage is not a sin, describing them as "equipment" that can help couples maintain intimacy and prevent adultery. In remarks that have divided opinions across social media and religious circles, the Oklahoma-based pastor and life coach argued that in the modern age, sex toys are simply tools—no different from cars or phones—that can assist married couples in their sexual relationships.

Speaking on the subject, Aghasedo posed a series of rhetorical questions to challenge conventional religious thinking. "Is using a sex toy a sin? Let's hear the grace. Is driving a car a sin? A car to drive you from here to Dallas, is it a sin? Using the phone, is it a sin?" he asked. The cleric, who holds a degree in Law and a Master of Business Administration from Regent University in Virginia, said he had never personally used one but insisted it could be a practical solution for struggling couples. "I have never used a sex toy. Let me just say. But in this modern day of technology, it's an equipment. It can help you do the job to 90%, and you finish the remaining 10%. I'm just being real. It can help you," he stated.

Aghasedo then dropped a revelation that has sent shockwaves through his followers: he has actually recommended a sex toy to a married couple before. "I have suggested a sex toy to a couple before, when I look at all the surrounding circumstances, so that somebody is not going out and all those things. I'm not joking. It's an equipment to help, to help the process," he disclosed. He was, however, careful to stress that his comments apply strictly within the framework of marriage. "Sex toy is only for married couple. We are talking within the framework of marriage, right? Not outside. It's for married couples," he clarified.

The cleric also drew a firm line between marital use and solitary use. "Now, if you engage it on your own, it's called masturbation, and another word for masturbation is fornication. You get it? If you don't get it, forget about it. It's within the marital context. Alright?" he said. This distinction has become a central point of the debate, with some praising his nuanced approach while others argue that any use of such items contradicts biblical teachings on sexuality.

Aghasedo, who is also the author of books including "Secrets of Kingdom Champions" and "Look and Live: Biblical Keys To Divine Healing", has previously drawn attention for his ministry work. He founded Joshua Aghasedo Ministries and has served as host pastor for various conventions. In 2017, he was cited for disturbing the peace following noise complaints from his church's services in Oklahoma City. The controversy surrounding his latest remarks has far outpaced those earlier incidents, generating intense discussion across Nigerian social media platforms.

The reaction has been predictably polarised. Some have applauded the cleric for addressing a taboo subject with honesty and practicality, arguing that his advice could save marriages and prevent infidelity. Others have condemned his comments as a dangerous departure from biblical standards, accusing him of normalising what they consider immoral behaviour. The debate has also raised broader questions about the role of religious leaders in addressing intimate aspects of married life and whether the church is equipped to counsel couples on sexual matters beyond traditional teachings.

Aghasedo's remarks come at a time when conversations about sexuality and marriage are becoming increasingly open in Nigerian society, yet remain deeply sensitive within religious circles. His willingness to discuss the topic so candidly has positioned him as a controversial figure, but one who is unafraid to challenge conventional thinking. Whether his comments will lead to a broader reassessment of the church's stance on marital intimacy or simply fade into the noise of social media outrage remains to be seen. But for now, Apostle Joshua Aghasedo has ensured that the conversation about sex toys and marriage will not be ignored.
