The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gombe State Command, has arrested three men for allegedly impersonating officers of the corps, forging identification documents, and unlawfully possessing fake volunteer ID cards and uniforms. The suspects, identified as Auwal Umar, 26, of Tukulma in Akko Local Government Area; Hamza Usman, 23, of Herwagana, Gombe; and Yakubu Muhammad, 22, also of Herwagana, were paraded at the NSCDC State Command in Gombe on Thursday, August 13, 2026, following their apprehension. The arrests were announced on Friday, August 14, 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Buhari Saad, who represented the State Commandant, Idris Jibrin, at a press briefing.
According to the NSCDC, the suspects were found in possession of counterfeit volunteer identification cards and uniforms bearing the insignia of the corps, items which they allegedly used to present themselves as bonafide personnel. Saad clarified that the NSCDC does not issue identification cards to its volunteers, making the documents in the suspects’ possession fraudulent and a clear violation of the law. “None of our volunteer members has any form of identification,” Saad stated, emphasising that the suspects were not genuine operatives and had no lawful authority to carry or use such materials. The possession of these items raised serious concerns about the suspects’ intentions, particularly regarding the potential for impersonation, fraud, and the exploitation of unsuspecting members of the public.
The Public Relations Officer noted that the suspects were being held on charges of conspiracy, impersonation, and forgery, adding that they would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations. The arrests mark a significant step in the NSCDC’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on individuals who seek to exploit the reputation and authority of the corps for illicit purposes. By parading the suspects and disclosing the details of their alleged offences, the command has sent a clear warning to others who may be considering similar criminal acts.
The NSCDC has also urged members of the public to exercise caution and vigilance when dealing with individuals who present themselves as personnel or volunteers of the corps. Citizens have been advised to verify the credentials of anyone claiming to be affiliated with the NSCDC, particularly in cases involving official duties, security operations, or requests for sensitive information. The corps reiterated its commitment to protecting its identity and ensuring that only authorised personnel are permitted to operate under its name. As investigations continue, the NSCDC has assured the public that the suspects will face the full weight of the law, serving as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar fraudulent activities.
