A Delta State High Court has ordered the remand of popular content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as Odogwu Asaba, at the Ogwashi Uku Maximum Correctional Centre following a formal application heard and granted on Friday, September 4, 2026. The remand marks a critical escalation in the high-profile case involving the alleged rape and subsequent death of 20-year-old nursing student Favour Agbro.
The court's decision came barely a week after the autopsy and toxicology test results in connection with Favour's death were made available to the police investigation team. Counsel to Favour's family, Awele Ideal, confirmed the development on her Instagram page, stating that the case now lies with the Ministry of Justice, specifically the Attorney General and Director of Public Prosecutions. "Today, 4/9/2026, The application to remand Mr Ifeanyi Ogbonna (Odogwu Asaba) was heard and granted by the Court," Ideal wrote. "He has now been Remanded at the Ogwashi Uku Maximum Correctional Center (Prison), from there he shall be brought to court until the completion of his trial".
The case dates back to early June 2026, when the 40-year-old social media personality allegedly lured the young victim from her base to Asaba under the pretext of mentoring and training her in digital content creation. According to police findings, he instead drove her to a hotel, where he allegedly subjected her to physical violence and sexual assault. Favour reportedly returned home deeply traumatized, recounted the harrowing ordeal to her parents, and documented her experience in a distressed video recording before tragically taking her own life by ingesting a toxic substance.
The incident triggered widespread public outrage and intense debate across digital platforms, drawing reactions from civil rights advocates and government officials alike. While Odogwu Asaba's wife later publicly contested the rape allegations—insisting that the encounter was consensual while maintaining his innocence regarding Favour's death—law enforcement intensified their probe.
With the legal machinery now fully engaged following the presentation of medical and toxicology evidence, the court's remand order ensures the content creator remains in custody as formal judicial proceedings progress. The allegations remain unproven in court, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Counsel to Favour's family, Awele Ideal, who is handling the case on a pro bono basis, reaffirmed her commitment to seeing justice served. "I still hold the brief of this case for late Favour's family on Probono basis rendering my legal services and financial support to ensure that no stone is left unturned," she stated.
