Nigerian troops have repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on a military base in Adamawa State, reportedly killing six insurgents during the encounter.

The attack occurred at approximately 9:07 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the Forward Operating Base in Garaha, Hong Local Government Area of the state.

The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13.

According to Goni, the attackers advanced on foot from the LAR axis and attempted to overrun the military position.

He said troops of Sector 4 of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, responded with superior firepower and coordinated defensive action, forcing the attackers to retreat.

A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of six bodies believed to be those of the attackers, which the military said confirmed their neutralisation.

The troops also recovered firearms, ammunition, a mortar bomb and other items during the operation.

The military said the successful defence prevented the attackers from overrunning the base. However, the statement did not provide further details about the identities of the attackers or disclose whether any soldiers were injured or killed in the latest encounter.

The incident comes amid continuing military operations against insurgent groups in Nigeria’s North-East, where troops have faced repeated attacks on military positions and communities.

Operation Hadin Kai is the military formation responsible for counter-insurgency operations across the North-East, including efforts to contain Boko Haram and ISWAP activities.

The latest operation underscores the continuing security challenges in Adamawa State and neighbouring areas as military authorities maintain operations against armed groups.
