Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political realignment in Southern Kaduna.

In a statement titled “A New Chapter: A Message of Unity and Purpose,” the senator said his decision followed “extensive consultations” with constituents and key leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.

Katung stated that his move to the ruling party was inspired by a shared vision for sustainable development, unity, and progress. According to him, aligning with the APC will enable more effective representation and accelerate the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Southern Kaduna.

“This decision is not about personal ambition but about ensuring that my people benefit directly from policies and programs that can transform our communities,” Katung said.

He praised the APC’s “visible achievements” in infrastructure, education, and community empowerment, emphasizing that these successes convinced him to support the government’s ongoing reforms.

Political analysts note that Katung’s defection represents a major political shift in Southern Kaduna, historically seen as a stronghold of the PDP. The development is expected to reshape party dynamics and strengthen the APC’s foothold in the region ahead of future elections.
