The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has dismissed misleading reports circulating online that falsely claim one “Major General Umar Mohammed” gave an interview to Trust TV criticizing military operations.
In a statement, the Command clarified that Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed is the State Commandant of NSCDC, Kwara State, and has never served in the Nigerian Army, nor has he granted any media interview regarding military matters.
The Command suggested that the viral publication may either be a case of mistaken identity or deliberate misinformation, noting that the false article used a photograph of Dr. Mohammed, potentially misleading members of the public. The statement emphasized that such actions could damage the reputation of respected public officers and sow unnecessary confusion.
The NSCDC Kwara Command condemned the circulation of unverified content and urged online publishers, bloggers, and social media users to verify information before posting. According to the Command, spreading false reports not only misinforms the public but also undermines the credibility of responsible journalism.
Members of the public have been advised to disregard the false story and avoid sharing or promoting the misleading content. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, ensuring public safety, and upholding professionalism, integrity, and discipline in the execution of its duties.
For accurate and verified updates, the NSCDC Kwara State Command directed the public to rely solely on official communication channels of the Command Headquarters and CDCFIB.
