The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has called on northern politicians to wait until 2031 to contest for the presidency. He made this assertion at a two-day Interactive Session on Government-citizens' Engagement organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna.

Akume cited President Bola Tinubu's remarkable achievements in just two years and two months in office, including strengthening security architecture, revitalizing agriculture, improving food security, and infrastructure development across the country. He debunked the narrative that the North is not being carried along, pointing out that many northerners have been appointed to work with the Tinubu administration and are performing well.

The SGF highlighted the president's efforts in maintaining impartiality in governance and fulfilling his promise to the Nigerian people. He described the Renewed Hope Agenda as a determination to restore hope to all regions of the country, highlighting achievements in diplomacy, foreign policies, transportation, job creation, education, and tax reforms.

Akume also compared the Sokoto-Bagary highway to the Lagos-Calabar highway, stating that the former is longer. He emphasized that the removal of fuel subsidy has provided more funds to the government at the sub-national levels to carry out huge projects and deliver quality dividends of democracy.

The SGF urged patriotic politicians to jettison their ambition for the presidency until 2031, citing Tinubu's visionary leadership and commitment to bringing dividends of democracy to all citizens and regions without bias. Akume's comments have sparked reactions, with many Nigerians weighing in on the implications of his words for the country's political landscape.
