The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully apprehended a suspected habitual criminal, Kabiru Bala, a 31-year-old male resident of Darazo. The arrest was made following a complaint filed by Dr. Auwal Abdullahi from Gombe State, who reported that his Peugeot 307 vehicle had been broken into and several possessions stolen, including N5 million in cash, a touchscreen laptop, and a Tecno Smart 17 model phone.
The police command's prompt response and technology-driven investigative techniques played a crucial role in the operation. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the allegations and provided comprehensive details regarding his criminal activities, which included vandalization of armoured cables in various locations.
The suspect confessed to having engaged in criminal activities for nearly seven years and having been apprehended on eight separate occasions. He also disclosed that he sold the stolen armoured cables based on weight and had accomplices and receivers involved in his activities.
The suspect was found in possession of a touchscreen laptop and a Tecno Smart 17 model phone, which were among the stolen items.
The investigation is ongoing, with efforts intensifying to identify and apprehend the remaining accomplices and receivers. The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspect be formally charged to court for the established offences upon completing the investigation.
