The Federal Government has announced its commitment to developing Nigeria's livestock sector as a strategic measure to address the persistent farmer-herder clashes and unlock the sector's vast economic potential. This was disclosed by Prof. Attahiru Jega, Co-Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms, during a government-citizens engagement forum in Kaduna.
Prof. Jega explained that the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development is a key component of President Bola Tinubu's blueprint for transforming the sector. The implementation of the President's vision is being carried out devoid of political considerations and is anchored on inclusive stakeholder engagement.
The Ministry's approach involves working closely with state governments, traditional rulers, pastoral communities, and other critical actors to ensure that the needs and concerns of all stakeholders are taken into account.
