Former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Edward David Onoja, has vehemently denied allegations of involvement in the deaths of two young men, Ayodeji Aiyepeku and Oluwapelumi Simidele Adebayo. The allegations were made in a publication by Sahara Reporters, which claimed that Onoja was accused of involvement in the deaths by a joint petition to the police by both families.

Onoja clarified that Ayodeji Aiyepeku was neither known to him nor did he belong to any team that worked under him during his service as Chief of Staff and later Deputy Governor of Kogi State. On the other hand, Oluwapelumi Simidele Adebayo was his son-in-law, married to his daughter, whom he had taken under his care after her parents' death.

Onoja revealed that his daughter had endured almost four years of persistent and escalating domestic violence from Pelumi, which prompted her to leave her matrimonial home last month with her son. He claimed that Pelumi had some mental health disorders, which were confirmed by hospitals in Lokoja, and that his family was aware of the abuse but had concealed it.

Family Meeting

Onoja stated that he had sent people to get his daughter and grandson after Pelumi's violent outbursts, and that Pelumi had even helped to pack their things and bid them safe journey to Abuja. He also claimed that Pelumi's parents had visited on July 21, 2025, and admitted that Pelumi had some issues, including psychotic episodes. A family meeting was held to brainstorm solutions to the problems between the two children, and Onoja denied rebuffing Pelumi's family's overtures for a peace meeting.

Denial of Allegations

Onoja categorically denied any involvement in the deaths of Ayo and Pelumi, stating that he did not know Ayo and knew Pelumi only as his son-in-law. He expressed shock and heartbreak at the publication of the allegations and stated that he would seek legal redress to protect his reputation.

Conclusion

The allegations against Edward David Onoja are serious and have sparked widespread attention. Onoja's denial of involvement in the deaths of Ayo and Pelumi has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The police investigation is ongoing, and it remains to be seen what the truth will reveal.
