The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has condemned in the strongest terms the brutal killing of two Igede youths along the Awajir-Oju Road and the violent attack on Nyifon community in Buruku Local Government Area.

According to security sources, the two victims were traveling on a motorcycle from Oju when they were ambushed and murdered by unknown assailants in what has been described as a cold-blooded attack.

In a separate incident, youths from Mbayaka community in Kusuv, also within Buruku LGA, reportedly launched an assault on the Nyifon community in Mbaikyongo Ward. The violence is believed to have stemmed from a dispute linked to a recent boat mishap.

Governor Alia, while reacting to both incidents, described them as “uncalled for and deeply unfortunate,” emphasizing that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands or harm others, regardless of the situation.

> “Benue is beginning to experience a level of security stability, and I will not tolerate any attempt by anyone—regardless of their status or intentions—to instigate unrest or threaten the peace we are working hard to sustain,” the Governor said.

He has directed security agencies to immediately collaborate with traditional rulers in the affected areas and to thoroughly comb the surroundings. He issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the identification and arrest of all those involved in these heinous acts, stressing that they must face the full weight of the law.

Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and called on all communities to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while investigations are underway.

The statement was released through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, mnipr.
