In a significant political development today, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State formally informed the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of his intention to seek re-election for a second term in the 2026 gubernatorial election.

The Governor made the announcement following what he described as months of "deep consultations" with key stakeholders across Ekiti State, including traditional rulers, civil servants, professional bodies, youth and women groups, artisans, transport unions, and political leaders from across party lines.

> “I do not take your trust for granted,” Governor Oyebanji said in a heartfelt statement issued to the press. “Our journey over the past two and a half years has been one of purposeful governance, visible results, and shared commitment.”

The Governor cited the remarkable progress made under his leadership, stating that the decision to run for a second term is rooted in the desire to consolidate ongoing developmental gains and to “push forward with even greater resolve.”

Oyebanji reaffirmed his commitment to the core values of internal democracy, unity, and mutual respect within the APC, describing the party’s Ekiti chapter as “a cohesive and forward-looking family.”

He expressed deep gratitude to influential party figures, especially former Governors Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi, for their “unwavering guidance and support,” which he acknowledged has been instrumental to the state’s progress.

As the 2026 governorship race begins to take shape, Governor Oyebanji also extended a welcoming hand to other prospective aspirants within the APC, emphasizing the importance of fair competition and internal democracy.

> “Our collective strength lies in our openness and commitment to fair competition,” he noted.

The Governor also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for Ekiti State and for spearheading national policies that are “already yielding real development across the country.”

Concluding his statement, Oyebanji called on all citizens to stay focused on the bigger picture:

> “Let us continue to work together. Let us remain focused. And let us keep building the Ekiti of our dreams.”

With his official declaration, the political atmosphere in Ekiti is set to intensify as the state looks ahead to what could be another defining electoral season.
