In a move aimed at enhancing health service delivery through reliable data, the Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Alabi Bliss Oshionogue, has pledged full support to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Federal Ministry of Health as they conduct the 2025 National Health Facility Survey across the council area.
Receiving the delegation at the Council Secretariat in Igarra, Rt. Hon. Oshionogue applauded the team's mission, describing the survey as critical to aligning local health efforts with national policies. He assured the visitors of maximum cooperation, safety, and logistical support across the ten wards in the LGA.
> “I appreciate your coming. Though I was away in Benin City on an official engagement when you first visited, I'm happy to receive you today. We want you to deliver an accurate report about us to NBS Abuja. As a Council, we know we can’t do it alone,” the Chairman stated.
He emphasized that Edo State and its Local Governments are working closely to deliver quality healthcare in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that health remains a top priority.
The Chairman further revealed that a Health Task Force Committee had already been constituted by the Council to coordinate information and data gathering across all 40 Primary Health Care Centres in Akoko-Edo.
Earlier, Momoh Adama, Team Lead from the National Bureau of Statistics, explained that the team was mandated to conduct comprehensive assessments of health personnel, service delivery, and available medical tools.
> “Akoko-Edo is one of the Local Government Areas selected across the 774 LGAs in the country. In Edo North Senatorial District, we are surveying 31 health centres selected through a random sampling process,” Adama said.
The survey is part of a national initiative to strengthen Nigeria’s health system through evidence-based planning and resource allocation.
