Dangote Refinery Begins Receiving 4,000 CNG Trucks for Nationwide Fuel Distribution

Published on 9 August 2025 at 23:01

In a major development set to reshape Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, the Dangote Refinery has commenced the phased receipt of 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks. This strategic move marks a critical step ahead of the refinery’s first dispatch of petrol and diesel, expected to begin on August 15, 2025.

The fleet, part of a ₦720 billion investment, is designed to reduce logistics costs, improve fuel distribution efficiency, and lower pump prices across the country. By leveraging CNG technology, the refinery aims to not only cut transportation emissions and costs, but also stabilize nationwide fuel supply and fight cross-border smuggling.

Key Benefits of the CNG Fleet Rollout:

  • 🚚 4,000 CNG Trucks for cleaner, cost-effective nationwide fuel delivery
  • 💸 ₦720 Billion investment to modernize fuel logistics
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 15,000 New Jobs to be created across the value chain
  • 🏢 42 Million MSMEs set to benefit from improved fuel availability and lower energy costs
  • 🚫 Reduced Fuel Smuggling and supply disruptions
  • Petrol and Diesel Deliveries Begin August 15

Strategic Impact on the Nigerian Economy

Experts say the initiative will unlock significant downstream efficiencies by connecting Dangote's 650,000 bpd refinery with retailers across Nigeria. With distribution driven by CNG trucks, the refinery can avoid many of the bottlenecks and inflated logistics costs tied to diesel-dependent fleets.

In addition, the move aligns with the federal government's push toward cleaner alternative fuels and support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which have been hit hard by fuel price volatility.

“This is more than just logistics—it’s a nationwide transformation. We’re not only cutting costs; we’re creating jobs, reducing environmental impact, and building a more reliable fuel supply chain,” said a senior Dangote Group executive.
