President Tinubu Considers Edo Home” — Governor Okpebholo Rallies Support for APC-led Federal Government

Published on 11 August 2025 at 11:14

Governor Monday Okpebholo has called on citizens of Edo State to give stronger backing to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the President as “a man who considers Edo State his home.”

Governor Okpebholo made this declaration on Monday during a strategic dialogue with political stakeholders and community leaders at the Government House in Benin, ahead of upcoming political engagements in the state.

“President Tinubu has always maintained strong ties with Edo State. From his relationships with leaders here to his consistent support for federal projects in our state, he treats Edo not as a stranger would, but as a son of the soil,” Okpebholo said.

He pointed to several recent federal initiatives including:

The inclusion of Edo industrial zones in the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP).

The reactivation of the Benin-Auchi Expressway through emergency federal intervention.

Federal allocations for agricultural mechanisation projects under the Renewed Hope programme.

The Governor also stated that continued synergy between Edo and the Presidency would guarantee the state’s accelerated development in infrastructure, education, and power delivery.

Governor Okpebholo’s remarks may be politically expedient, especially as the 2025 off-cycle elections approach in Edo. However, Stone Reporters News believes citizens deserve more than sentimental affiliations.

Calling Edo “home” for the President may boost morale within the All Progressives Congress (APC), but: Does the state budget reflect increased federal support?

Has Edo benefited more than other oil-producing states in terms of revenue allocation or infrastructure?

Where are the independent impact assessments showing improvement in living standards since Tinubu’s tenure began?

The phrase “Tinubu considers Edo home” is rhetorically appealing, but it must translate into:

Greater federal presence in marginalized LGAs.

Strategic appointments for qualified Edo technocrats.

Accelerated completion of long-abandoned federal projects (e.g., Benin bypass, modular refineries)

Stone Reporters urges citizens to ask hard questions, and for the Governor to publish a comprehensive federal project tracker, outlining what has been proposed, approved, and delivered to Edo since 2023.

Only then can declarations of loyalty be matched by delivery of results.
