At the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) headquarters in Abuja, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), through its Research, Technology, and Innovation (RTI) subsidiary, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PTDF aimed at deepening technology-driven solutions for the oil and gas industry.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sophia Mbakwe, Executive Vice President, Business Services, NNPC Ltd., described the agreement as a strategic move to tackle industry challenges, deliver scalable solutions, and foster local content.
“The MoU unites our strengths to advance local content, foster technology adoption, and develop the next generation of energy professionals,” Mbakwe said, noting that both parties will collaborate on research, innovation, skills development, and commercialisation of industry solutions.
On his part, Ahmed Galadima Aminu, Executive Secretary of PTDF, said the partnership is anchored on mutual trust and national progress.
“By leveraging PTDF’s research infrastructure and NNPC Ltd. RTI’s laboratories, we are laying the foundation for collaborative testing, validation, and deployment of breakthrough technologies,” he stated.
He highlighted focus areas such as refinery catalyst production, biofuel development, oil and gas drilling operations, and geological mapping.
The MoU covers joint research and development, technical support, data and knowledge sharing, infrastructure and innovation hubs, local content development, and capacity building — all aimed at boosting Nigeria’s energy industry competitiveness.
