President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Opeyemi Agbaje as the new Chairman of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).

The announcement, made from the Presidency in Abuja, is seen as part of Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to strengthen key financial and regulatory institutions across the country.

Opeyemi Agbaje is a renowned economist, management consultant, policy analyst, and public affairs commentator. He is the founder of RTC Advisory Services Ltd, a leading strategy and business advisory firm.

He has over three decades of experience spanning financial services, business strategy, policy development, and governance.

Agbaje studied Law at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and later earned an MBA from the prestigious Lagos Business School (LBS). He has also undergone executive education at top international institutions, including Harvard Business School.

Before founding RTC Advisory, Agbaje worked in senior roles in the banking sector and was once Head of Strategy and Branding at First Atlantic Bank (now FinBank/FCMB).

His appointment is widely regarded as a move to bring in expertise, integrity, and reform-minded leadership into PenCom, an institution critical to safeguarding the retirement savings of Nigerian workers.

President Tinubu emphasized that Agbaje’s appointment aligns with his Renewed Hope economic reforms, particularly in ensuring transparency, accountability, and sustainability in Nigeria’s pension administration system.

Stakeholders in the financial and pension sectors have welcomed the appointment, describing Agbaje as a seasoned technocrat who has the capacity to restore public confidence in the pension scheme and expand its impact on national development.
